What P0300 Means

This code means the engine computer is picking up misfires that aren't tied to one specific cylinder. It's jumping around, or hitting more than one cylinder. If it were just one cylinder, you'd see P0301, P0302, and so on with a number telling you which one. P0300 means the problem is either affecting the whole engine or moving between cylinders, which usually points to something the cylinders all share, like fuel, air, or a weak spark source.

Is It Safe to Drive

Drive it as little as possible until it's looked at. A misfire means unburned fuel is going into the exhaust, and that raw fuel can overheat and damage the catalytic converter. That's an expensive part to replace, and it's damage you can avoid entirely by not driving the car around for days with this code lit. If the engine is shaking, running rough, hesitating, or the check engine light is flashing rather than steady, stop driving it and get it towed in. Fuel delivery problems, like a weak fuel pump or clogged injectors, can starve multiple cylinders. Low compression from something more serious, like a stretched timing chain or a leaking gasket, can also show up as a random misfire, though this is less common. What Diagnosis Involves and Rough Cost

We start by pulling the freeze frame data and misfire counts to see if it's spread evenly or concentrated on a couple of cylinders even though it triggered the "random" code.
