Why Does My Car Keep Stalling?
A car that stalls can be anything from an idle or fuel issue to a charging problem. When it stalls, and whether it restarts, narrows it down — and stalling while driving is treated as a safety concern.
This is general guidance, not a diagnosis. It is based on what you can see, hear, smell or read — not a physical inspection of your vehicle. What can cause this?
Stalling means the engine cannot keep itself running — usually a fuel, air, ignition or idle-control issue, and sometimes a charging problem. Whether it restarts easily, and whether it happens hot or cold, tells a technician a lot about where to look.
When should I stop driving?
Stalling while driving is the serious one: when the engine quits you can lose power steering and brake assist, which makes the car harder to control. - whether it loses power first
- whether it happens cold, warm, or both

- Stored trouble codes and live data
- fuel delivery and pressure
- ignition
- the idle-air control and throttle body
- the charging system
