What P0506 does not prove

It does not prove a single idle-control part has failed — vacuum leaks, throttle-body condition, or the control circuit can all upset idle.

What you can safely check

• Whether idle is high, low or surging
• Whether the light is steady or flashing
• For obvious disconnected hoses when safe

What a shop may check

An example diagnostic direction, not a guaranteed procedure:

• Scan tool and live idle and airflow data
• The idle-air or throttle control
• A check for vacuum leaks
• The throttle body condition

What not to do

• Don’t assume one idle part without checking for vacuum leaks
• Don’t keep driving if it stalls in traffic
