P0200

Injector Circuit Malfunction

GET CHECKED SOON

Powertrain · Fuel and air · generic OBD-II code

What does P0200 mean?

A general fault in the fuel injector control circuit.

Can I drive with P0200?

A steady check-engine light with the car otherwise behaving normally usually means you can drive carefully to get it diagnosed — but a flashing light, shaking, lost power, or a strong fuel smell changes that. When in doubt, treat it as more serious. See Can I Drive It? for a quick read on your exact symptoms.

Common symptoms

  • Check engine light
  • Rough running or a misfire
  • Hard starting
  • Reduced power
  • Fuel smell in some cases

Possible causes

Possible causes include — not “the part is definitely bad”:

  • Injector wiring or connector faults
  • A failing injector
  • A control (driver) circuit problem

What P0200 does not prove

It does not prove the injector itself has failed. The circuit fault can be in the wiring, the connector, or the control side rather than the injector.

What you can safely check

  • Whether the light is steady or flashing
  • Whether the engine runs rough
  • For a fuel smell — if strong, do not keep cranking

What a shop may check

An example diagnostic direction, not a guaranteed procedure:

  • Scan tool and freeze-frame data
  • The injector circuit, wiring and connector
  • Injector operation and balance
  • A check that the fault is the injector and not its control or wiring

What not to do

  • Don’t replace the injector before its wiring and control are checked
  • Don’t keep driving with a strong fuel smell

Generic OBD-II guidance — manufacturer-specific codes and causes vary by make, so always confirm against your vehicle. A code identifies a system or condition; it does not, on its own, prove which part has failed.
