Electronic parking brake warning
The letter P in a circle, often flashing, or a brake system message.

What it means
Many modern cars replace the handbrake lever with an electronic parking brake. A warning here means the system has detected a fault applying, releasing, or monitoring that brake.
Can I drive?
Your normal foot brakes are a separate system and usually still work — but if the parking brake will not release, or you also see the red brake warning, do not force it and get it checked. Do not rely on the parking brake to hold on a hill until it is fixed.
Common causes
An actuator or switch fault, low system voltage, or a sensor issue. It should be scanned to confirm.
Warning-light symbols and meanings vary by vehicle — always check your owner’s manual. This is general guidance based on what the light indicates, not a physical inspection, and a light on its own never names a failed part.
