2001 Ford ZX2

2001 Ford ZX2 Fuel Pump Replacement

This Ford ZX2 quit and would not start again. It cranked over but would not fire, and it had to be towed in to us from Graham because it could not run under its own power.

What we found

We found the engine cranking normally but getting no fuel. The fuel pump had failed, so no fuel was reaching the engine — the classic cranks-but-won't-start no-start.

What we did

We replaced the fuel pump module assembly and fitted a new fuel filter at the same time, since there is no sense sending fresh fuel through an old filter. Then we confirmed proper fuel pressure and the engine started and ran normally.

How it turned out

The car started right up and ran cleanly, back on the road under its own power.
A car that cranks but will not fire is often a fuel-delivery problem, not the battery. A fuel pump usually gives little warning before it quits, so if yours has been hard to start or cutting out, it is worth checking before it strands you.
