2001 Ford ZX2

2001 Ford ZX2 A/C Compressor Replacement

This Ford ZX2 was blowing warm air from the vents with the air conditioning on — no cold air on a hot day.

What we found

The A/C compressor had failed. The compressor is what actually pumps the refrigerant, and when it quits the whole system stops cooling.

What we did

Nick replaced the A/C compressor and the serpentine belt that drives it, then evacuated the system and recharged it to spec. Doing the belt and a proper evacuate-and-recharge at the same time is the right way when the system has been opened up.

How it turned out

Cold air blowing from the vents again.
When an A/C compressor is replaced, it is worth doing the belt and a full evacuate-and-recharge in the same visit — the compressor is not a part you want to keep opening the sealed system to get at.
