Maintenance required / service light
A wrench symbol, or the words MAINT REQD or SERVICE.
GENERALLY OK TO PROCEED WITH CAUTION
Nothing is wrong · Amber means get it checked
What it means
Unlike the check engine light, the maintenance or service reminder is a scheduled prompt — most commonly that an oil change or routine service is due based on mileage or time. On many vehicles it is simply reset at the next service.
Can I drive?
Yes. This is a plan-ahead reminder, not a stop-now warning. Book the service that is due so small maintenance does not turn into a bigger repair.
Worth knowing
It is easy to confuse with the check engine light. If the symbol is an engine outline (not a wrench), treat it as a check engine light instead.
Warning-light symbols and meanings vary by vehicle — always check your owner’s manual. This is general guidance based on what the light indicates, not a physical inspection, and a light on its own never names a failed part.
