What P0113 means
Your engine has a sensor that measures the temperature of the air coming into the intake, usually built into or near the mass airflow sensor. The computer uses that reading, along with airflow and engine load, to figure out how much fuel to add. P0113 means the computer is seeing a voltage from that sensor that reads as unusually high, which it interprets as an air temperature that's too cold to be real, or the circuit is open. It's a wiring and voltage complaint, not a statement that the sensor itself is bad.
Is it safe to drive
Yes, generally. This code by itself does not usually cause stalling or drivability problems you'd notice right away. The computer often falls back on a default temperature value and keeps running fine. Watch for rough idle, hesitation, or worse fuel economy than usual. If you notice any of those, or if other codes show up alongside this one, get it looked at sooner. Otherwise this is fine to schedule at your convenience.
What commonly causes it
Most often it's a wiring issue: a connector at the sensor that's loose, corroded, or has a broken wire, or a spot where the wiring harness has rubbed through and lost continuity. That would explain a reading that pegs high (often read as extreme cold) rather than fluctuating with actual temperature.
Next most common is the sensor itself failing internally, either inside the mass airflow sensor housing or as a separate intake air temp sensor, depending on the engine. Some vehicles have the IAT built into the MAF, others have it as its own unit mounted on the intake tube. A bad ground elsewhere in the engine bay can also throw this code, since a lot of sensors share ground points.
Less common: a problem at the computer itself, though that's rare and worth ruling out everything else first.
Diagnosis and rough cost
Diagnosis means checking the wiring and connector for damage or corrosion, checking the sensor's resistance against spec at different temperatures, and confirming the ground circuit is good before assuming the sensor is bad. That's typically under an hour of shop time.
If it turns out to be a connector or wiring repair, that's usually the cheapest fix, often well under a hundred dollars in parts, mostly labor. If the sensor needs replacing, parts cost varies a lot by make and model, since some are a standalone ten-dollar sensor and others come as part of a mass airflow sensor assembly that costs considerably more. We won't know which until it's checked, and we're not going to sell you a MAF sensor if the problem turns out to be a fifteen-dollar connector.
