Summer Road Trip Prep Guide
Your essential checklist for a safe and comfortable journey in the summer heat.
Summer Road Trip Checklist
Beat the heat and ensure your vehicle is ready for long drives.
1 Keep Cool: A/C & Engine
Test A/C Performance: Don't wait for a 90-degree day to find out your A/C is weak. We can check for leaks and recharge the system.
Inspect Coolant System: The coolant system is vital to prevent overheating. Check the coolant level and have the hoses and radiator inspected for cracks or leaks.
Check Engine Belts: Extreme heat can cause belts to crack and fail. A quick visual inspection can prevent a breakdown.
2 Stay Grounded: Tires & Brakes
Verify Tire Pressure: Heat causes the air in your tires to expand. Check pressure when the tires are cold to ensure they are at the recommended PSI.
Check Tire Tread: Look for adequate tread depth and any signs of uneven wear, which could indicate an alignment issue.
Inspect Brakes: Long descents on road trips can be tough on brakes. A brake inspection ensures your stopping power is at 100%.
3 Fluids & Vision
Check Oil Level: Long trips can consume oil. Check your oil before you go and consider an oil change if it's been a while.
Top Off Wiper Fluid: Summer means bugs on the windshield. Make sure your washer fluid reservoir is full.
Test All Lights: Check your headlights, brake lights, and turn signals for both day and nighttime safety.
4 Update Your Emergency Kit
In addition to the basics, add summer essentials: extra bottles of water, a sunshade for your windshield, a portable phone charger, and jumper cables.
